NDRF conducted a mock drill in Shivnath river to prevent flood disaster
Durg. Under the guidance of Collector Richa Prakash Chaudhary, a mock drill was organized today in the Shivnath river to take stock of the necessary preparations for flood disaster prevention. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) conducted a mock drill of all the flood rescue materials available at the district level. In the mock drill, a live demo (mock drill) of flood rescue work was organized using various types of items available in the district like motor boat, scuba diving, underwater camera, life jacket, life buoy, ask light, pelican light, search light, etc., in case the boats of the villagers cross the Shivnath river using wooden or small boats during heavy rains and the village gets flooded.
During the mock drill, the NDRF and SDRF teams practiced several important rescue operations. These included rescuing people drowning in the river, taking people trapped in strong currents to a safe place and evacuating people trapped in damaged buildings during floods. Apart from this, information was also given about how to be cautious and what measures to take in case of snakebite. Modern rescue equipment and techniques were also demonstrated in this exercise, so that the team can gain experience of correct and effective use of these equipment during a real disaster. Local administration and citizens were also included during the mock drill, so that they can get information about taking correct steps during a disaster and helping NDRF.
Many villages around the Shivnath river in the district are affected. The villagers of the flood-affected area were shown by the team personnel and the district’s flood rescue team how to make a raft from the materials available in the houses like teepa, bhagona, drum, matka, tube etc. and how a drowning person can be saved by making a life jacket by making a 1-litre drinking water bottle air-tight.
