This gang used to carry out crimes of fraud in a very vicious manner on the pretext of performing religious rituals, prayers and cleaning the jewelery of women. The gang’s targets were mainly middle-aged and elderly women, from whom they stole gold and silver jewelery and cash. Arrest made near roadways bus stand The police achieved this success on the basis of accurate information received from the informer. The Kotwali police team had received information that a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was planning to commit some major crime in the city or escape from here. Taking immediate action on this information, the police team laid siege near the Roadways Private Bus Stand on Monday. Seeing the police, a suspicious person tried to run away, but the alert policemen surrounded him and caught him. During interrogation, the accused was identified as Hussainu (45 years), son of Nazruddin, resident of Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. According to police records, he was wanted for a long time and the police was actively searching for him. Chemical bottle and gem recovered After the arrest, when the police searched the material of the accused, the items used in the fraud were recovered from him. Police have recovered Rs 400 in cash, a plastic bottle filled with dangerous chemicals used to polish and clean jewelery and 10 different colored gems (precious looking stones) from Hussainu’s possession. According to the police, the accused used these stones and chemicals to put the women in a hypnotic state and trick them of miracles. A vicious way of deceiving elderly women During police interrogation, accused Hussainu has revealed the working methods of his gang. This inter-state gang used to roam around in different cities and conduct recce of such residential areas where elderly or middle-aged women were alone in their homes. The gang members used to approach women in the guise of sages, saints or astrologers. They used to make women fear that there would be great trouble in their family or due to planetary influences. In the name of prevention of planetary defects and happiness and peace, they used to lure women to remove the gold and silver ornaments they were wearing and keep them in puja or to clean them with special chemicals and make them shine twice as much. As soon as the women fell into their trap and handed over the jewelery to them, these gangs would quickly replace the real jewelery with fake ones or take the opportunity and make off with the jewelery and cash. Since the victimized women were elderly, they were not able to protest against them immediately. Strict police action and further investigation Azamgarh Police Administration has described this success as a big achievement. Police officials say that apart from Uttar Pradesh, this gang has carried out many incidents of fraud in Uttarakhand and other neighboring states. The arrest of Hussainu has dealt a major blow to the network of this gang. The police are now strictly interrogating the accused to find out who else are involved in this gang and how many women they have so far made victims of their fraud in Azamgarh and surrounding districts. The police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections and presented him in the court, from where he has been sent to jail. The local police has appealed to the citizens, especially women, not to fall prey to any unknown person who claims to clean jewelery or perform Tantra Mantra.
