Navi Mumbai Metro: Passenger ticket prices reduced, details
Mumbai: In a welcome move for metro commuters in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra’s City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has announced a significant reduction in metro ticket fares for the Belapur-Pendhar corridor. The new fare structure, effective from September 7, will see fares cut by up to 33 per cent. The minimum fare will now be Rs 10, while the maximum fare has been fixed at Rs 30.
The updated fare system offers better value for money with an increase in travel distance for each fare slab. Under the new rates, tickets will cost Rs 10 for up to four kilometres, Rs 20 for four to eight kilometres and Rs 30 for distances over eight kilometres. Earlier, the fare from Belapur terminal to Pendhar was Rs 40; now it has been reduced to Rs 30. Apart from the fare reduction, CIDCO has also increased the operating timings of the Navi Mumbai Metro service. Starting from April, metro services will now start at 6 am from both Belapur and Pendhar stations. The last metro train will leave from Belapur at 11 pm and from Pendhar at 10:30 pm. This extension will be applicable on all days of the week.
The Belapur-Pendhar Line-1 of the Navi Mumbai Metro has 11 stations on the 11.1 km route, with the train depot located at Taloja Panchanand. CIDCO vice-chairman and managing director Vijay Singhal told Hindustan Times, “The reduction in fares and extended timings are aimed at making the metro service more accessible and convenient for short and long-distance travellers.” Navi Mumbai Metro Corridor No. 1, which connects Belapur to Pendhar, is part of CIDCO’s Navi Mumbai Metro project and enhances connectivity to key areas such as the CBD, Taloja MIDC and CIDCO housing complexes in Kharghar. Metro services on this line began on November 17 last year.
