National Round Table Conference of Election Commission of India and State Election Commissioners concludes

Raipur. A one-day national roundtable conference of the Election Commission of India and State Election Commissioners was held at “Bharat Mandapam,” New Delhi, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

The conference was chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, Mr. Gyanesh Kumar. The conference was attended by the State Election Commissioner of Chhattisgarh, Mr. Ajay Singh, along with State Election Commissioners, Chief Electoral Officers, and State Election Commission officials from all states across the country. The conference was primarily organized to enhance coordination between the Election Commission of India and the State Election Commissions for conducting local body elections in the states.

In his address at the conference, Mr. Ajay Singh, State Election Commissioner, stated that for the preparation of electoral rolls for local body elections, the Election Commission of India should receive the data of the Legislative Assembly electoral rolls as soon as possible, and within 7 days if possible, so that the State Election Commission can prepare the electoral rolls for urban and Panchayat elections within the stipulated timeframe and conduct the elections. He also requested that the Election Commission of India should provide Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as per the requirement of the states for the optimal utilization of resources. Ajay Singh also informed that in January-February 2025, elections for the urban and Panchayats of Chhattisgarh were successfully conducted simultaneously in 36 days.

Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, Gyanesh Kumar, in his address said that after considering all the points raised by the Election Commissions of the states, the Election Commission of India was assured of taking a quick decision.
