Nashik Godman ‘Bhondu Baba’ Booked for Rape, Claimed “Divine Powers”

Mumbai: Another Baba, claiming to have divine powers, raped a woman. The victim remained silent for some time due to his threats. The matter came to light after she approached an anti-superstition organization. (Nashik godman) The incident took place in Nashik, Maharashtra. The 28-year-old woman works as a security guard in a private hospital. She is suffering from mental illness.

Meanwhile, the woman’s family members took her to Maheshgiri Baba alias Mahesh Dilip Kakde, a self-proclaimed god in Nashik, who is popularly known as ‘Bhondu Baba’. The Baba assured her of treatment and told her to attend pujas every Thursday.

However, ‘Bhondu Baba’ gradually started trapping the woman. He started sending personal and obscene messages to her mobile phone. In August 2024, he lured the woman to a secluded place. He then took her to a lodge in a car and raped her. When the woman resisted, he showed her Rudrakshas. He threatened her by saying, ‘I have divine powers, you cannot resist anything.’ After the rape, he also took nude photos of her and threatened her.

On the other hand, the victim told her relative about this. In this context, the threats of ‘Bhondu Baba’ intensified. He called the woman to his office. He warned her that he was a ‘goon’ and not to approach the police. He took the woman’s mobile phone and deleted the messages and other evidence related to the harassment.

Meanwhile, the victim woman has been silent for some time due to fear. Recently, it was revealed that Nashik-based astrologer Ashok had been sexually harassing several women under the guise of hypnotism. In this context, the victim woman took courage. She approached the anti-superstition organization Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti. She narrated the incident and sought help. In this context, the police have registered a case against ‘Bhondu Baba’ based on the complaint of the victim woman and are investigating.
