Narikuvar community met the minister regarding the demand for lease, government gave assurance

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: People of Narikuvar community of Tiruvallur district met Tamil Nadu Social Justice Minister Vanni on Wednesday demanding ownership rights (lease) of their land. The meeting took place at the Secretariat, in which community representatives put forward their problems and long pending demands.
People of Narikuvar community reside in Konnamancheri and Meenjoor villages of Ponneri taluk. He requested the Minister to give them legal ownership rights of their land and also to provide facilities for construction of new houses. The people of the community said that due to lack of land rights they are facing many social and economic problems.
During the meeting, Social Justice Minister Vanni listened carefully to the community representatives and assured them that their demands would be seriously considered. The Minister assured that he would personally visit their area and take steps towards issuing the patta and taking forward the process related to land ownership.
Minister Vanni said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Vijay is working equally for all sections of the people. He said that the government through the Social Justice Department has set a target to eliminate the problems related to land ownership in the next five years. Special plans are being prepared for this, so that the needy communities can get their rights.
He also said that the government aims to ensure that no community is deprived of land rights. The problems of the Narikuvar community will be looked into on priority basis and after completing the necessary procedures, they will be provided legal rights.
The Minister assured the delegates that this is not just a formal assurance, but part of the government’s policy to ensure that the deprived sections of the society are given their due on time. He said that by getting land rights, the standard of living of the community will improve and they will become more socially and economically empowered.
After this meeting, there is hope among the people of Narikuvar community that their long standing demands can be fulfilled soon. The community representatives welcomed this assurance from the government and expressed hope that they would soon get the land rights.
This case has once again brought into discussion the issues related to land rights and social justice in the state. According to the government, such cases will be resolved on priority basis so that all communities can get their rights and live a dignified life.
