Nalgonda: Action Taken Over Paddy Procurement Irregularities; Coordinator Suspended, Notices Issued to 6 Officials

Telangana: The administration in Telangana’s Nalgonda district has taken strict action regarding irregularities in the paddy procurement process. Suryapet District Collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar has suspended an IKP Community Coordinator following irregularities uncovered at the Thirumalagiri Agricultural Market Yard, while show-cause notices have been issued to six other officials.

According to reports, K. Ramaiah, the IKP Community Coordinator for Gottiparthi, is accused of aiding middlemen during the paddy procurement process. It is alleged that, as a result of these irregularities, farmers suffered losses and were deprived of the benefits of a fair price and a transparent procurement process. Deeming these allegations serious based on a preliminary inquiry, the district administration has initiated suspension proceedings with immediate effect.

This action, taken under the directives of the District Collector, is aimed at upholding transparency within the paddy procurement system and ensuring the protection of farmers’ interests. The administration has signaled that negligence or corruption at any level will not be tolerated.

In this matter, the action taken goes beyond mere suspension; a process to establish accountability at higher levels has also been initiated. Show-cause notices have been issued to Thungathurthi Tahsildar T. Dayanandam, Thirumalagiri Tahsildar B. Hari Prasad, Thungathurthi MPDO K. Seshu Kumar, Thungathurthi Agriculture Officer D. Ramesh, Gottiparthi IKP Center In-charge J. Swetha, and Thungathurthi Assistant Project Manager M. Yadamma.

All these officials have been asked to explain their respective roles regarding the irregularities in the paddy procurement process and the extent to which they fulfilled their official duties. The administration has made it clear that further stringent action may be taken if satisfactory explanations are not provided.

The paddy procurement process serves as a crucial mechanism for farmers, enabling them to sell their produce at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Consequently, any form of irregularity or the involvement of middlemen in this process directly impacts the farmers’ income and infringes upon their rights. Local farmers have also welcomed this action and have expressed hope that the procurement process will become more transparent and fair in the future. The farmers state that if such irregularities are not curbed in a timely manner, it has a direct impact on their economic well-being.

According to administrative sources, a detailed investigation into this matter is underway; should the involvement of any other individual or official come to light, action will be initiated against them as well.

Overall, the action taken regarding irregularities in the paddy procurement system in Nalgonda district underscores the administration’s strict stance and its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the farmers.
