Naidu assures on Air India crash probe: Report coming soon, but without haste

Gujarat : Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu has said that the investigation into the Air India plane crash is in the final stages and the investigation report will be released soon. He clarified that the investigation of a plane crash is a very technical and sensitive process, hence one cannot be hasty in reaching any conclusion.

The minister said that the investigating agencies are conducting the investigation in accordance with all technical aspects, available evidence and international aviation standards. The aim of the government is to bring out an unbiased report based on facts.

What did Naidu say?

K in conversation with media. Rammohan Naidu said that investigation of plane crashes happens at many levels. This involves a detailed analysis of the aircraft’s technical records, flight data, cockpit voice recorders, weather conditions, air traffic control records and other scientific evidence.

He said that-

“The report will be released soon, but the investigation cannot be rushed. Our aim is to bring out the true facts and not to draw hasty conclusions.”

Why does investigation take time?

Aircraft accident investigations are different from normal criminal investigations. Many expert institutions and technical experts are involved in it.

These aspects are usually analyzed during investigation-

Study of flight data recorder (FDR)
Analysis of Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR)
Investigation of plane wreckage
Checking the engine and other technical systems
Pilot and crew operational records
Weather and Air Traffic Control Data
Maintenance History

For these reasons, it may take time to prepare the final report.

What are the investigating agencies doing?

The plane crash is being investigated by the relevant specialist agencies. If required, cooperation of aircraft manufacturers, engine manufacturers and other international experts is also taken.

The purpose of investigation is not only to find out the cause of the accident but also to make safety recommendations to prevent such incidents in future.

The Union Minister said that the government gives top priority to safety in the civil aviation sector. He said the findings from each plane crash are used to further strengthen safety standards.

He also assured that the investigation is being conducted in a completely fair and transparent manner.
