Nagpur: The threat of HMPV virus has increased! High Court intervenes…
Maharashtra: While the world has recovered from the impact of Corona, now the world is facing the threat of a new HMPV virus. Cases of this virus are being seen continuously in the country. On Monday, an application was filed in the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court requesting the court to intervene and order the state health department to form a special action force to stop the spread of the virus in the state.
After the spread of Corona in 2020, the High Court took suo motu cognizance and filed a PIL. Due to ineffective management of Corona, the court had repeatedly ordered the administration to take steps. Now in the same PIL, an application has been filed in the court regarding the rapidly spreading new HMPV virus. The symptoms of the new virus are similar to the corona virus. Therefore, court friend advocate Shrirang Bhandarkar has requested to take precautionary measures before the situation in the state becomes uncontrollable. Demands have been made through the application to test patients of the new virus, run public awareness campaigns regarding symptoms and preventive measures, prepare the health system in the state to deal with the new virus, etc. Apart from this, it has also been demanded in the petition that the Health Department of the State Government should immediately form a special action force and submit regular reports to the court. The petition is likely to be heard in the court on Wednesday, January 8.
There is currently an outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China. The Health Department clarified on Sunday that no case of this virus has been reported in the state so far. Meanwhile, the Health Department has taken the step of surveying cold and cough patients while being cautious about HMPV. As the threat of HMPV increases, the Health Department has analyzed the data of respiratory infections in the state. No increase in respiratory infections has been observed in the state in December 2024 as compared to 2023. The Health Department said that as a precaution, citizens should take precautions to protect themselves from respiratory infections. There is no reason to worry as the HMPV epidemic is spreading in China. Necessary vigilance is being maintained in this regard and there is no need to create an atmosphere of fear. In this background, the Health Department has also ordered that the health department officials should expedite the survey in their respective areas and submit regular survey reports of cold and cough patients.
