Murder over watermelon dispute, dispute arose over damage to the crop

Raigarh. In a dispute over damage to the crop in the watermelon garden in village Barkhoria Karmanacha Baghdipa of Lalunga police station area, a youth killed a villager. According to the information, on the evening of May 11, Vijay Majhi (36 years) of the same village killed 60-year-old Sahdev Manjhi with an iron crowbar outside the village. The deceased’s son Tejaram Majhi was informed about the incident by his mother over the phone, after which he reached the spot and saw his father’s dead body and informed the police.
On May 12, Lalunga police received information about the body being found, on which a team led by Sub Inspector Igeshwar Yadav, Chandan Netam reached the spot. During investigation, the deceased was identified as Sahdev Manjhi. Based on the statement of the victim’s son, the police registered a case of murder against the accused Vijay Majhi under section 103 (1) BNS of the Indian Penal Code under crime number 124/2025 and took him into custody by taking immediate action. During interrogation, Vijay confessed his crime and said that he attacked Sahdev with an iron crowbar (rod) over the dispute of damage to the watermelons in his garden, which led to his death.
On the basis of the memorandum of the accused, the crowbar used in the murder, blood-stained clothes and other evidence have been recovered. Vijay Majhi, son of Sukhsai Majhi, has been arrested and sent on judicial remand. Lalunga police station in-charge sub-inspector Igeshwar Yadav, assistant sub-inspector Chandan Netam, head constable Nand Kumar Pankra, constable Sant Nishad and Suresh Minj played an important role in the entire operation.
