Muniguda One person killed, 11 bulls killed by lightning in Norwester

Muniguda: A severe nor’wester wreaked havoc in parts of Rayagada district on Friday night, killing one person after a tree fell on him.

In a separate incident, lightning struck and killed 11 bulls. The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Jeeta Jal, a water pump operator in Hukumatola village in Bissamcuttack block. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning wreaked havoc in the area on Friday night. After the storm subsided, Jal reportedly went out to resume water supply when a tree suddenly fell on him, killing him on the spot.

Jal, a resident of Kutragada village, was staying at a water pump site in Hukumatola for his duty. Following the incident, police and fire service personnel arrived at the scene and recovered the body from under the fallen tree.

After a post-mortem at the Muniguda Community Health Center, the body was handed over to his family. Meanwhile, 11 bulls died after being struck by lightning in Madhumunda village under Muniguda police limits.
