Mumbai: Traffic police fined 17,800 people on New Year’s Eve
Maharashtra: The New Year was welcomed with great enthusiasm across the country. For this, people gathered at public places across the country. Citizens also gathered at many places in Mumbai. However, during this time, about 17,800 people were fined for violating traffic rules in Mumbai on New Year’s Eve. This also includes 153 people who were found driving after drinking alcohol. Also, a fine of Rs 89.19 lakh has been collected from those who violated the rules. Mumbai Traffic Police gave information in this regard on Wednesday. According to police officials, all necessary precautions were taken to prevent any untoward incident in the city.
The police said that tight security was put in place at places like Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Bandstand and Juhu Chowpatty where New Year was celebrated. The Traffic Control Branch had taken strict measures to ensure proper traffic regulation and control. Police officials said that during this time 17,800 people were fined and e-challans were issued for violating various rules. According to officials, 2,893 drivers were fined for parking vehicles on the road, 1,923 for driving two-wheelers without wearing helmets and 1,731 for breaking traffic signals.
