Mumbai Metro Tragedy: Slab Collapse Claims 1 Life, 5 Arrested

Mumbai: The government has taken strict action against the metro slab collapse incident in the capital of Maharashtra, Mumbai. The executive engineer has been suspended. A fine of Rs 6 crore has been imposed on the contractors involved in the project. (Mumbai Metro Slab Collapse) Police have arrested five people from the construction company. On Saturday afternoon, a slab of the metro line under construction collapsed on the arterial LBS Marg in Mulund. The huge slab fell on an auto and a car moving on the road. Local Samajwadi Party leader and village head Ramdhan Yadav, who was on his way to a wedding, died in the accident. Three others were injured.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy CM and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde has responded seriously to the incident. He has ordered the suspension of Executive Engineer Satyajeet Salve. He said that a fine of Rs 6 crore has been imposed on contractors and consultant firms Milan Road Buildtech and Louis Berger. He has ordered the officials to conduct a comprehensive audit of the entire metro route in terms of safety and construction. Shinde also revealed that the compensation for Yadav’s family has been increased to Rs 15 lakh.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has also taken action in the incident. Four employees of the construction company Milan Road Buildtech and one employee of DB Hill LBG Supervisory Company have been arrested, a police official said. Project director Harish Chauhan and two project managers are among those arrested, he said.
