MP: Robotic surgery introduced in Central India

Madhya Pradesh: Marking a significant milestone for the healthcare sector in Central India, the Sri Aurobindo Group has introduced the state-of-the-art ‘MedBot Toumai’ robotic surgical system at its Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics Super Speciality Hospital. The installation of this new technology on Tuesday has raised expectations for the availability of advanced robotic surgery facilities in the region.

This initiative is viewed as a major step towards expanding healthcare infrastructure and making modern medical technology accessible at the regional level. According to the hospital management, the introduction of this system will enable complex surgeries to be performed with greater precision, safety, and reduced risk.

Dr. Mohak Bhandari, Managing Director of the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS)—which operates under the Sri Aurobindo Group—stated that ‘MedBot Toumai’ is one of the most advanced surgical robotic systems currently available. He noted that this technology would provide doctors with superior control and a high level of precision during complex operations.

The robotic system is equipped with several modern technical features, including 5G-enabled telesurgery capabilities, multi-arm flexibility, and 3D high-definition vision. These features allow surgeons to control operations remotely and perform surgery at an extremely minute level. This is expected to reduce recovery times for patients and lower the likelihood of complications.

According to doctors, a key advantage of this technology is that it significantly mitigates the limitations associated with human hands. Thanks to the precise movement of the robotic arms and high-definition vision, even the smallest anatomical structures can be clearly visualized and manipulated during surgery.

The hospital administration believes that this new facility will substantially reduce the need for patients in Central India to travel to major metropolitan cities or abroad for medical treatment. Now, complex surgeries—such as bariatric, urological, and other super-specialty procedures—will be available locally.

According to health experts, while robotic surgery is expanding rapidly in India, the technology had previously been concentrated in only a few major cities. Consequently, the introduction of such a state-of-the-art system in Central India is considered a significant development for regional healthcare services.

The hospital has also indicated plans to increase the utilization of this system in the future, thereby extending its benefits to a larger number of patients. Additionally, doctors and medical staff will receive specialized training in this technology to ensure its optimal use.
