MP: Newly married couple commits suicide in Shivpuri district

Madhya Pradesh: A newly married couple was found dead in a river in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district on Friday with their legs tied with a dupatta, police said.

Amola police station in-charge Anshul Gupta told reporters that the deceased have been identified as Aman Prajapati (24) and Savita Jatav (20), both residents of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.

“A motorcycle was found on the bridge over Sindh river at Amola Ghat on Wednesday. Investigation was launched and it was found that the vehicle belonged to Prajapati. His father later lodged a missing person complaint, following which the police kept a watch on the area,” he said.

“One leg of each of the two deceased was tied with a dupatta. It appears to be a case of suicide. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” Gupta said.

Prajapati and Jatav had married in a temple on August 13. Their families were unaware of their relationship with Savita. He worked in a private sector in Jabalpur district, where the two met and fell in love.

On August 19, Jatav reached Jhansi and the next day, both of them allegedly jumped into the Sindh river.

Police said a case has been registered and investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of their death.
