MP: Nanpur crematorium in Alirajpur faces severe apathy

Madhya Pradesh: The cremation ground (Muktidham) in Nanpur is facing widespread neglect, angering villagers. On Sunday, residents alleged that lakhs of rupees in beautification funds and public donations were lost to corruption, resulting in no improvements on the ground. Nanpur is the largest gram panchayat in Alirajpur district.
Due to the lack of a boundary wall, stray animals frequently enter, thorny bushes have grown, and filth remains widespread. Community leaders said that due to the lack of a gate, even items stored there are subject to theft. They demanded the immediate construction of a boundary wall and proper security.
Villagers further stated that the cremation ground has neither electricity nor water. Consequently, many families are forced to perform last rites at Koteshwar on the banks of the Narmada River in Dhar district. This results in an additional cost of 20,000 to 30,000 rupees, which is unaffordable for poor families.
Sakari Sarpanch Samarth Singh Maurya said that a proposal has been submitted to the Gram Panchayat and the demands have been placed before the people as per the new guidelines.
