More women voters than men in 11 states: Report

New Delhi: Eleven states have more female voters than male voters in 2024, according to a report on Wednesday. Their number is highest in Kerala. The report highlights the role and participation of women in the 2024 general elections. A report by New Delhi-based public policy research and consultancy firm Quantum Hub has revealed that the number of female voters in Kerala is higher than that of male voters. 51 percent of the total voters are women. After this comes Goa, Mizoram, Manipur and Tamil Nadu. In contrast, states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar and Uttarakhand have the lowest share of women voters. The share of women voters in this general election is also the highest in two decades – 48.6 percent. Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar have the highest number of new women voters since 2019. “Women have become more important than ever as an electorate. This is also reflected in the pre-poll promises of regional and national parties,” said Aparajita Bharti, co-founder, TQH Consulting. “We are attempting to highlight and track the growing importance of women voters. Political participation and representation is important for progress towards women empowerment in the country,” she said. The report also revealed that women’s representation in the service and overseas sectors like the armed forces and paramilitary forces is 3.5 and 11 per cent respectively.
