More than 24 lakh students will be affected by the order of NEET-UG examination

Students affected: After hearing a series of allegations regarding irregularities in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024, the Supreme Court on Tuesday concluded that a fresh exam would not be justified. “At the present stage, there is no material on record from which it can be concluded that there was any violation of the result of the examination or that there was a systemic violation of the sanctity of the examination,” the apex court said. However, the court admitted that the leak of documents had taken place in Hazaribagh and Patna. During the proceedings, CJI Chandrachud also pointed out that ordering a re-examination would affect more than 24 lakh students who had appeared in the exam. Supreme Court in NEET-UG paper leak case

The data recorded is not indicative of a systemic leak of the question paper which would indicate a disruption in the sanctity of the examination.

CJI DY Chandrachud said that cancellation of the entire examination is not justified on the basis of the evidence established by this court or the material available.

The court is also aware of the fact that directing a fresh NEET will have grave consequences.

The high court asked the NTA to recalculate the result on the basis of the correct answer.

“We accept the report of IIT Delhi and accordingly the NTA will recalculate the NEET UG result on the basis that option 4 represents the only correct answer to the question,” the CJI said.

During the hearing, the court assessed that the Union has constituted a committee headed by the former chairman of ISRO, the committee will follow the directions of this court in the final decision given by this court, the CJI said.

The court has also asked the NTA to be strengthened so that “such incidents do not recur in future.”
