MLC Ramana Urges Revanth Reddy on Handloom Tender

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLC L. Ramana has written a letter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy requesting him to scrap the unified tendering system in the handloom sector. He has requested that clothes be purchased through TSCO under the old system. He has also demanded that the GO issued on March 11 be implemented as is and that the order worth Rs 105 crore for the manufacture of student uniforms be given to TSCO.

He appealed to the people to purchase the clothes required by various welfare departments through TSCO. He said that the handloom sector in Telangana
is not just an industry, but the livelihood of thousands of families. He revealed that it is a symbol of culture and traditions. He reminded that the decisions taken by the previous government to protect this sector since the formation of Telangana State have been very beneficial for the handloom artisans and workers.

He said that for the last two decades, whenever government institutions needed any item related to the handloom profession, they would purchase it from the handloom cooperative societies through the State Handloom Cooperative Society. He said that due to this policy, the weavers of the joint Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts got continuous employment throughout the year. He urged that immediate steps be taken to resolve this problem and protect the livelihood of lakhs of weavers.
