Minor posted obscene post on Instagram, victim committed suicide in shock

Surguja. The police have arrested a girl in connection with the suicide of a minor student by hanging three months ago in Manipur police station area of Surguja district. The girl had posted an obscene post against the student on Instagram. The matter is of a triangular love affair. The police have taken action against the girl under the IT Act for abetting suicide. According to the information, Priyanka alias Riya (17), a student of Darima, who was studying at her maternal uncle’s house in Mathpara of Manipur police station area, had committed suicide by hanging herself at home on 10 December 2023. At the time of the incident his maternal uncle’s family had gone out. She was in her maternal uncle’s house with her sister. In the name of studying at night, Priyanka went to another room and hanged herself.

During the investigation of the case, the police examined Priyanka’s mobile and took statements of witnesses. Investigation revealed that Mamta Singh of Darima area had made obscene comments by posting Priyanka’s photo on Instagram. Angered by this, Priyanka committed suicide by hanging herself. In the case, the police had registered an offense under Section 305 and 67 of the IT Act against Mamta Singh after investigation. During police interrogation, Mamta Singh told that Priyanka also liked the boy she loved and was going to marry and had gone out with him. This thing displeased him so he made an obscene comment on Instagram on his mobile on the night of December 10, 2023 by tagging the deceased Priyanka with the photo. According to the police, after seeing the post, Priyanka hanged herself due to fear of defamation. Manipur Police arrested the accused girl Mamta Singh (18) and produced her in the court, where she has been sent to jail in judicial custody.
