Mini-lorry seized for illegal transportation of PDS rice in Ballari; case filed against three persons

Karnataka: A case of illegal transportation of ration rice provided under the Public Distribution System (PDS) has come to light in Ballari district, Karnataka. Kurugodu police on Tuesday seized a mini-lorry near Nelludi Kottal village, allegedly carrying government ration rice illegally.

Police have registered a case against three people in this matter. The accused have been identified as Sekhshavali, a resident of Adoni in Andhra Pradesh, Vinod, a resident of Manvi in Raichur district, and Haldal Veerabhadra.

According to police, the action was taken on Tuesday when a suspicious mini-lorry was stopped during patrolling. During investigation, it was found that the vehicle was loaded with a large quantity of PDS rice and was being transported from one place to another without any valid documents.

It is reported that the accused were transporting the consignment around a large canal area near the village, where police received information. Based on information, a police team arrived at the scene, stopped the vehicle, and began an investigation.

Investigation revealed that the rice, meant for the poor under the Public Distribution System, was allegedly being transported for illegal sale in the market. Preliminary investigations indicate that this may be part of an organized network, although this has not yet been confirmed.

Police have seized the vehicle and are investigating the source and destination of the rice. They are also investigating who else may be involved in this illegal activity.

The local administration has taken this incident seriously and stated that black marketing of PDS materials will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Such activities directly impact the rights of the poor, for whom this scheme is run.

Police officials stated that interrogation of the accused is ongoing and further legal action is being taken. Additional arrests may be made if necessary.

Following this incident, questions have also been raised about the government ration distribution system in the area. The administration is now investigating whether any irregularities in the distribution system could be contributing to such incidents.

At present, a case has been registered against the three accused under relevant sections and the investigation is underway. Police say a detailed investigation will be conducted to uncover the entire network.
