Metro rail may delay completion of flyovers

COIMBATORE: With Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) announcing that metro rail project may start early next year, officials in the state highways department say the flyover work on Sathyamangalam Road would be delayed as it will have to be constructed in coordination with the railway project.

CMRL managing director MA Siddique on Tuesday said phase one of the metro rail project would have two corridors – Avinashi Road and Sathyamangalam Road. Further, he said NH department will build the flyovers in accordance with the metro rail project.

While the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin during his visit to Coimbatore on November 6, announced that the Avinashi Road elevated flyover will be extended for 5 km from Chinniampalayam to Neelambur at a cost of Rs 600 crore, the highways department has already announced Sathyamangalam Road widening project and flyover construction at Saravanampatti Junction on the same road.
