Message of the Anti-Drug Campaign on International Women’s Day

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh EAGLE Chief IGP AK Ravikrishna on Sunday appealed to women and mothers to come forward in the fight against drugs and help make Andhra Pradesh ganja and drug-free. He was speaking at a trekking program organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day at AIIMS Eco Park in Mangalagiri under the leadership of Raga, founder of V-Vibe Organization. Extending Women’s Day greetings, Ravikrishna appealed to women to become brand ambassadors for anti-drug campaigns and support the police by sharing information about ganja cultivation and drug trafficking through the AP EAGLE toll-free helpline 1972. He said that the state government and the police department are jointly fighting the war against narcotics, while awareness programs are being conducted in educational institutions to prevent students and youth from falling prey to drugs. Recalling the struggle for women’s rights, she said that in many countries, women were initially denied basic rights and did not have the right to vote before 1917. She further stated that International Women’s Day is celebrated to remember the courage and struggle of women who fought for equality.
Sharing her experience as Additional SP in Parvatipuram, Ravikrishna said she initiated an outreach program called “Chellelli Kosam” in villages along the Andhra-Odisha border to strengthen police-community interaction. Women were encouraged to send postcards on local issues, which helped police take action against illegal liquor manufacturing and gambling. During her time as Guntur SP, she launched initiatives for women’s safety, including martial arts training for college students and distributing packets of chili powder for self-defense. Citing the case of a young man jailed for MDMA drug use, Ravikrishna said he later regretted ignoring his mother’s advice, and added that young people should understand the consequences of such mistakes. Eagle Superintendent of Police K. Nagesh Babu and Guntur District Forest Officer M. Hima Shailaja attended the event.
