Mercury Soars Past 41°C In Bhubaneswar By 2.30PM, Sambalpur Hottest In Odisha At 44.2°C

Bhubaneswar: With heatwave sweeping Odisha, the day temperature touched 44.2 degree Celsius in Sambalpur by 2,30 pm on Friday, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed.

The mercury soared past 41 degree Celsius at 3 more places – Jharsuguda (43.4), Hirakud (42.8) and Bhubaneswar (41.4).

Sambalpur had recorded 41 degree Celsius by 11.30 am followed by Jharsuguda at 40.6 degree and Bhubaneswar and Hirakud at 39.6 degree each. The Odisha capital had recorded 34 degree Celsius and 71% humidity by 8.30 am.

The MeT office has forecast no large change in the day temperature during the next 5 days with mercury hovering around 43-44 degree Celsius in interior districts of the state, which is also likely to experience isolated thunderstorm activity during this period.

Yellow warning for light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was also issued for some parts of districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur this afternoon. There was also a forecast for light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with lightning for some parts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Cuttack.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is also likely on June 4-5.
