Meeting With The Joint Collector Regarding Land Acquisition For The Railway Line

Khammam District Joint Collector Srinivas Reddy and Special Deputy Collector Rajeshwari held a meeting with the landless people of Singareni village on Tuesday to discuss the rate of land acquired for the doubling work of the Dornakal-Bhadrachalam Road railway line. The talks did not come to fruition as the officials did not agree to determine the rate demanded by the landless people at the meeting held at the Khammam Collector’s office conference hall. The victims asked the officials to pay compensation of Rs. 91 lakh per acre for agricultural land and Rs. 20 thousand per yard for house plots. The officials concluded that the rate was feasible and clarified that Rs. 18 lakh per acre for agricultural land and Rs. 6,300 per yard for house plots would be paid. In the case of constructed houses, the officials announced that the house of the victim named Munnir would get Rs. 46 lakh with the additional compensation provided by the R&B officials’ estimation.

The displaced people did not agree to the officials’ statement that they would pay the same rates as those paid in the land acquisition of agency areas. The victims demanded that justice be done with a humanitarian approach by considering the prices of the lands there in the case of non-agency areas. The officials said that they should think about it and decide by the time of the next meeting. The displaced people submitted a petition to JC Srinivas Reddy under the leadership of Singareni Sarpanch Medari Veera Pratap, demanding justice by paying the compensation as requested by the farmers and those who lost their houses. Singareni Tahsildar Ramesh, Railway JE Srikanth, Revenue Inspector Jagadish, and GPO Bumper participated in the meeting.
