‘Medicine in Search of Workers’ program found 30,506 people with co-morbidities

Tamil Nadu : Public Health Minister M. Subramanian said that 30,506 people have been diagnosed with co-morbidities so far under the ‘Workers Seeking Medicine’ program.

Minister M. Subramanian launched the medical examination program for posts announced in the Legislative Assembly in Chennai, Guindy, and Thiru.V.K. Nagar on Thursday.

Medical examinations were conducted at that time for those working in small businesses operating in the industrial park there. Following that, Minister M. Subramanian told reporters:

People-oriented medicine is one of the best programs of the Public Health Department. 2.34 crore people have benefited from it. We are continuously expanding this program with the aim of ensuring that all people benefit from it.

On the other hand, the Workers’ Health Checkup Scheme was initially implemented based on 8,35,000 workers working in 711 factories. Out of which, 3,90,111 people have been tested so far and 30,506 have been found to have co-morbidities including diabetes and high blood pressure. They are being provided with appropriate treatment.

Similarly, follow-up treatment is already being provided to 12,468 people suffering from non-communicable diseases. In order to further expand this scheme, it has been decided to provide non-communicable disease tests to employees working in all small business establishments in Tamil Nadu under the People’s Health Seeking Scheme. More than 6 lakh people working in 7,750 small business establishments and offices across the state will benefit from this scheme.

Under the People’s Health Search Scheme, 25,92,103 people have benefited in Chennai alone. Application registration for medical courses will begin on Friday. We hope that there will be no problems with fake certificates like last year. However, appropriate steps have been taken to verify the authenticity of the certificates, said Minister M. Subramanian.
