World: While Joe Biden is facing criticism for his first presidential debate performance with Donald Trump, the former president’s niece, Mary Trump, commented on her uncle’s performance. The first presidential debate of 2024 took place on June 27 in Atlanta, with Biden and his GOP rival Trump facing off against each other. Since then, Biden has been facing criticism for his performance in the debate, during which he frequently made mistakes in his speech, lost the thread of his thoughts, and was difficult to understand due to his scratchy voice. After the debate, Mary highlighted her continued support for Biden and called Trump’s performance “apocalyptic disastrous” in a Substack post.
Admitting that Biden’s debate was good, “it would be absurd to pretend that it was”, she stressed that Trump should also face calls to drop out of the presidential race. Speaking honestly about Trump, she said that “if we used parameters like integrity, policy, a vision for America, and defense of democracy to measure success, the debate would be so disastrously disastrous.” She further said that she could not believe that not a single expert or Republican official that she knew of had called for Trump to drop out of the race. She added, “If we are going to count style over substance, I would prefer to speak slurred and haltingly than to be hate-filled and unhinged every day of the week.” Trump’s niece attacked CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, who moderated the debate in Atlanta, because they “allowed the Donald to drown out the truth with an ever-increasing stream of bizarre and dangerous lies.”
Citing Trump’s lies during the debate, she pointed out that the GOP leader said Nancy Pelosi was responsible for the Capitol riots on January 6, that he, not Biden, imposed restrictions on the price of insulin, and that some Democratic states allow abortions “until after birth.” In early June, Pelosi told MSNBC that Trump and “his sycophants don’t want to face the facts,” rejecting the former president’s interpretation of her claim that she was the cause of the January 6 riots. “They’re trying to create revisionist history,” she said. Mary Trump calls Donald Trump a ‘traitor’ In her post, Mary called Trump a “brutal, fundamentally dishonest man, a criminal and a traitor.” She said Trump should get no credit for lying, vehemently attacking the US, or painting a horrific picture of the country where millions of women are denied their most basic human rights.
