Maoists’ key statement on laying down arms

The Maoist party has made a key statement on laying down arms and joining the mainstream of life. It has made it clear that if the combing stops, they will lay down arms. To this extent, the Maoists have written a letter to the Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. They said that they have already informed the zonal committees as per the decision taken in the CCM. They have asked the governments to respond by December 15th. If the governments respond, they said that they will observe ceasefire till March 31. Otherwise, they warned that the attacks will intensify.

The Maoist Party stated in the letter that Comrade Sonu Dada, a member of the Central Committee and Politburo of our party, has recently taken a decision to temporarily suspend the armed struggle by renouncing weapons, assessing the changing situation in the country and the world. It said that it supports the decision taken by Sonu Dada. It said that the MMC Special Zonal Committee also intends to give up guns. However, it said that it requests the governments of the three states to give it time till February 15.

The Maoists said that it would take some time for them to collectively reach this decision as their party is committed to the principles of democratic centralism. They asked for time to consult their comrades and convey these messages to them in a systematic manner. They clarified that there was no other motive for asking for this time. They explained that they were asking for this period as they did not have any other easy means to communicate quickly. They asked the security forces to stop their activities. They said that they would not organize the PLGA week… they assured all their activities.
