Manipur: Shopkeepers continue protest demanding money

Manipur: Members of the Wangjing Lumding Shopkeepers Development Association on Sunday staged a sit-in protest at the Wangjing-Lamding market against excessive monetary demands. Speaking during the protest, the association’s advisor Khundrakpam Gunamani stressed that people are suffering from severe hardship due to the crisis that began on May 3 last year.

He said the shopkeepers’ income has taken a huge hit as many shops remain closed. Gunamani also highlighted the critical need for money for their children’s education and to run their households. He said some shops are running without any real profit. Despite the challenges, the shopkeepers are trying their best to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur and extend full support to those protecting it.

He urged the concerned groups to refrain from imposing excessive monetary demands, clarifying that the protest was not directed against any specific group. The protesters also displayed various placards condemning the excessive financial demands.
