Guwahati: Security forces arrested a senior member of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Monday, officials said.
Based on specific intelligence, the forces apprehended Kshatrimayum Nilakanta Singh alias Kanta or Mangal (51) from Takyel Kolom Leikai Leirak-6 under the Lamphel police station area. Singh is a resident of Kakching Turel Wangma in Kakching district and also had a house in Langjing Achouba Awang Leikai in Imphal West.
During the operation, the troops seized two mobile phones and a driving license from the arrested member. Officials said that investigators are examining his activities and his links to the banned organization to ascertain his exact role in insurgency-related operations.
In another coordinated operation the same day, security forces recovered a cache of arms and communication equipment from the Konaithong and Pelayang hill ranges under the Machi police station in Tengnoupal district. The recovered items included two improvised mortars and three wireless communication sets.
Officials said that these arrests and recoveries are part of the intensified counter-insurgency measures aimed at dismantling militant networks and maintaining peace and security in the state.
