Manipur: MLA RK Emo wrote a letter to Amit Shah requesting to hand over unified command
Manipur: Sagolband Assembly constituency MLA RK Imo Singh on Monday wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah informing him about the fresh violence in Manipur. Kuki terrorists have started drone attacks on civilian population and security forces since Sunday. RK Imo, in a letter to Amit Shah, said that the central government should hand over the unified command to the state government headed by the Chief Minister and allow it to take action as per the procedures laid down by law to bring peace and normalcy in the state. It seems that the presence of about 60,000 central forces in Manipur is not able to bring peace, so it is better to remove such forces which are mostly present as mute spectators.
It said, “We are happy with the action of removing some units of AR, which were not cooperating with the state government and the public, but if the presence of these central forces cannot stop the violence, then it is better to remove them and let the state forces take command and bring peace in the state.” The present dispensation is not capable of preventing such violence, hence handing over the unified command to the elected government is the need of the hour.
It said the terror acts perpetrated by illegal armed insurgents/militants are responsible for the death of two persons including an innocent woman and injuries to children, security forces and others.
It pointed out that this violence has taken place just a day after a so-called peace rally was held across the state. It reiterated that this is not just ethnic conflict, these are terror acts perpetrated by illegal armed insurgent/militant groups with a larger interest against the state of Manipur, which we all know by now.
The conflict is still going on even after 15-16 months have passed since May last year, hence it was expected that the days of violence are behind us and more focus is being given to political dialogue, so that a lasting and peaceful solution can be found, but a certain group/section wants the violence to continue to serve their larger interests.
This onslaught has now been extended to drone attacks and shelling, as we see in other neighbouring countries. At this juncture I am resorting to question the Central Government about the action taken to stop this violence,”
The Central Government must take more stringent measures against these illegal armed militant/insurgent groups who have violated the basic rules of the SoO.
