Manipur: Four alleged arms smugglers arrested in Imphal East; weapons and ammunition seized

Imphal: A joint team from the central and state forces launched an anti-insurgency operation, resulting in the arrest of four alleged armed smugglers and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition from vulnerable locations in Manipur’s Imphal East district over the past 24 hours.
According to official reports issued on Wednesday, based on intelligence inputs from various quarters, the joint team first arrested two arms smugglers from Keibi Awang Leikai Yaibirel, under Sagolmang Police Station, Imphal East district.
The arrested individuals were identified as Lisham Naoba Singh, also called Leichin (38), of Uyumpok Mamang Leikai, Sagolmang PS, Imphal East district, and Laishram Chingkhei Meitei/Thouba (23) of Sugnu Tangjeng Bazar.
From their possession, 110 rounds of 5.56×45 mm live ammunition and two mobile phones were seized.
Based on their interrogation reports, the joint security team launched another operation, leading to the arrest of two more individuals along with illegal arms and ammunition from different locations under Porompat Police Station, Imphal East district.
The arrestees were identified as Thingujam Suresh Singh (40), also known as Bimol/Ibohanbi, of Sekmaijin Khunou, Kakching district, a/p Khurai Tongbram Leirak, arrested from his present residence, and Moirangthem Dayamoi (39) of Khurai Soibam Leikai, Imphal East district, arrested from his residence.
From their possession, authorities seized one .32 pistol along with a magazine loaded with a round, one BAOFENG handheld set with its charger, two mobile handsets, and one Aadhaar card.
