Man on his way to get chicken to celebrate New Year’s Day, brutally hacked to death in Odisha; Body chopped into pieces

Dhenkanal: The New Year’s Day celebration of a family at Basoi village under Parajang Police station limits of Dhenkanal district in Odisha turned into a tragic incident as one of the family members was chased like an animal and brutally hacked to death and the body was chopped into pieces today.

The heinous crime took place when one Rakesh Sethi of the village was going to get chicken from the market to celebrate the New Year’s Day with his family members today. However, a youth identified as Maku Biswal of the village chased him like an animal and hacked him to death over some unknown reason.

On being informed, Sethi’s son and wife rushed to the spot to rescue him. However, Maku terrorized them with sharp weapon and allegedly attempted to attack them, following which they ran for their lives. Others, who also witnessed the entire scene, could not dare to protest Maku from killing Sethi.

Maku was on such a fit of anger that he chopped Sethi’s body into several pieces and threw them on the middle of the village road before fleeing the spot.

Later, a team cops from the Parajang Police station arrived at the village to probe the case. They seized the head, hands, feet and other body parts of Sethi which were remained scattered following his murder. They are also interrogating some villagers and Sethi’s family members to get some lead in the case. This apart, a manhunt also has been launched to trace and nab killer Maku.

While narrating about the deadly murder of her husband to the newsmen, Sethi’s wife informed that he was working as a driver but was staying in the house for the last two months after getting injured in a tragic accident. He could not walk properly as irons rods were fixed inside his legs during operation after the accident, she claimed adding that she is yet to know the reason behind her husband’s murder.

Meanwhile, the locals alleged that Maku Biswal used to terrorize them and threatened to kill them without any reason. They also demanded his immediate arrest and capital punishment for him. “The terrifying crime which occurred in the village today, as per my knowledge, has not taken place elsewhere in Odisha. He used to threaten the locals and people like him do not deserve to live in the society. He should be hanged to death,” demanded Jugal Kishor Sahu, the Sarpanch of the Basoi Grama Panchayat.
