Man hacks father, neighbour to death

Baripada/Karanjia: In a shocking incident, a young man allegedly murdered his father and a neighbor on Wednesday evening in Kushapada village of Karanjia block in Mayurbhanj district.

The accused, identified as Mantu Patra, suddenly attacked his father, Prafulla Patra, with a sharp-edged weapon in a fit of rage. When neighbor Ganeshwar Patra tried to intervene, Mantu also attacked him, killing him on the spot.

Ganeshwar’s son, who tried to resist the attack, sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to Karanjia Hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.

Some villagers apprehended Mantu and alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and took the accused into custody. The bodies were taken into custody and sent for postmortem.

Mantu has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway.

Locals allege that the accused suffered from a mental illness, which may have led to this violent act.

However, police said the real motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained.
