Man arrested for murder of Coimbatore woman

Coimbatore: Madukkarai police in Coimbatore district on Saturday arrested a 64-year-old man for killing his girlfriend over a family dispute in Madukkarai late on Friday night.

The arrested person was identified as A Petchimuthu, a native of Mariamman Kovil Street in Arisipalayam near Madukkarai.
About two years ago, he was separated from his family after a misunderstanding with his wife. He was working as a private security guard and was living in a rented house located on Sundarapuram Road in Madukkarai.

Meanwhile, he had an extramarital affair with a woman named S Vasanthakumari (41) of Madukkarai. The woman worked in a private company in the area. Her husband died 13 years ago and she lived in a rented house with her two teenage sons. Police said that Petchimuthu and Vasanthakumari lived nearby and she often visited Petchimuthu’s house.
Petchimuthu became suspicious of her as she was allegedly talking on the phone with some other people. Due to this, fights started between them.

On Friday around 11.45 pm, Vasanthakumari went to Petchimuthu’s house and a heated argument took place.
In anger, Petchimuthu cut him with a knife and attacked him with a wooden log. Vasanthakumari suffered injuries on her head and right shoulder and raised an alarm which brought the neighbors there.
When neighbors knocked at the door, Petchimuthu did not open the door and they saw that there was blood in the water leaking from his house. He was allegedly trying to clean the floor to hide the murder. But when the neighbors kept knocking, he opened the door.
Neighbors informed the Madukkarai police, who reached the spot and arrested Petchimuthu on Saturday morning. Further investigation
