Major campaign in Odisha for International Yoga Day 2026
Odisha: Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahalinga has appealed to the people of the state to actively participate in the large-scale yoga campaign being organized by the Union Ministry of AYUSH on the occasion of ‘International Yoga Day 2026’. The objective of this campaign is to establish a Guinness World Record through mass participation.
In his message issued on Friday, Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that due to the visionary leadership and initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yoga has today been established as a global health movement. He said that accepting India’s proposal, the United Nations had declared June 21 as ‘International Day of Yoga’. Since then, the message of yoga has spread throughout the world and it has become a part of the daily routine of millions of people.
The Minister said that Yoga is not just a physical exercise, but it is also a scientifically proven way to balance mental and spiritual health. He said that regular yoga practice can prevent lifestyle diseases and help people live a more healthy and active life.
He appealed to the people to actively participate in this special campaign of Yoga Day and make it a mass movement. The Minister said that such mass events not only increase health awareness but also spread positive energy in the society.
The Health Minister further said that this year the theme of âInternational Day of Yogaâ has been kept as âYoga for Healthy Agingâ. The objective of this theme is to convey the message that regular practice of yoga can make the aging process healthy and active.
He said that yoga is especially beneficial for the elderly as it not only maintains physical flexibility but also reduces mental stress. The government’s aim is that more and more people should make yoga a part of their lifestyle.
Minister Mahalinga said that the Odisha government is making preparations at every level to make this campaign successful and yoga programs will be organized in all the districts of the state. He expressed confidence that with public participation this event will take a historic form and will be successful in creating a Guinness World Record.
After this appeal, enthusiasm about Yoga Day has increased in the state and various organizations have also started preparations to participate in this campaign.
