Major action by Shimla Police: Two inter-state drug networks busted.

Shimla. Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla Police has busted two major inter-state drug trafficking networks, further intensifying the campaign against drug trade. Police have arrested the main suppliers linked to Chandigarh and Mohali in separate cases. Officials say that now instead of being limited to taking action only at the local level, a strategy is being adopted to root out the drug trade by reaching out to the entire supply network.
While talking to the media in Shimla on Monday, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Mehar Panwar gave information about this action. He said that the police has changed the way it investigates drug related cases in recent months. Now in every case, instead of being limited to just the recovery or the local accused, efforts are being made to reach the person who operates the entire network.
Mehar Panwar said that Shimla Police has adopted the strategy of finding out the backward links during the investigation. Under this process, an attempt is made to find out where the drugs are coming from, through whom they are being supplied and who is the main operator of this illegal business.
He said, “Shimla Police is now focusing on reaching inter-state supply networks and ensuring arrest of key suppliers. This helps us break these networks more effectively.
According to the police, in the investigation conducted under the same strategy, main suppliers from Chandigarh and Mohali were identified in two separate cases. After this, police teams took action and went to both the states and arrested the accused. Officials say that these arrests have dealt a blow to the big drug supply network.
Additional SP said that earlier in many cases only local drug sellers or small smugglers were caught. But now efforts are being made to take the investigation forward and reach those who control the entire supply chain. This also helps in stopping the supply of drugs in future.
He said that busting an inter-state network is not easy as it requires coordination and technical investigation between several states. For this, apart from the local police, constant contact is also maintained with the police agencies of other states.
According to police officials, digital evidence, mobile phones, call detail records, financial transactions and other technical information are also being analyzed in drug trafficking cases. Through these means, efforts are made to find out who are involved in the network and how the entire supply chain operates.
Mehar Panwar said that the priority of Shimla Police is not just to recover narcotics but to expose the entire gang. If access to the main suppliers is achieved, the network of small-scale smugglers automatically weakens.
He said that the police will continue to work on the same strategy in future also. In every case, efforts will be made to take the investigation forward and reach the roots of the network. This will curb the drug trade more effectively.
In view of the increase in drug trafficking cases in recent years in many parts of Himachal Pradesh including Shimla, the police have launched special operations. The state government and the police department have been continuously making people aware about the ill effects of drugs as well as taking strict action against smugglers.
Officials say arrests alone are not enough to save youth from drug abuse. For this it is necessary to destroy the entire network. For this purpose, the police is now trying to trace every link of the supply chain during the investigation.
The police have also appealed to the general public that if they have any information related to drug smuggling, then share it with the police. Officials say that with the cooperation of citizens, such networks can be eliminated more quickly.
This action of Shimla Police is being considered an important step against inter-state drug trafficking. After the arrest of the main suppliers from Chandigarh and Mohali, the investigation is still going on and the police is trying to find out who else were connected to this network.
Officials have assured that similar targeted action will continue in the future and strict action will be taken against drug trafficking networks operating outside the state. He says that the police is committed to taking action at every level to root out the illegal drug trade.
