The Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a warning of very heavy rain in some areas of Raigad and Ratnagiri till Friday morning. Meanwhile, according to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in areas of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai and Sindhudurg till Friday morning. Keeping in mind the warning issued, a holiday has been declared on Friday in all schools and colleges falling in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area. The BMC has also appealed to all teachers to inform the concerned parents and take necessary precautions while leaving the school with proper coordination at the school level. Additionally, the BMC has requested all citizens to avoid going out if not necessary and asked them to cooperate. During the last 24 hours till 8:30 am today, Mumbai city recorded 44 mm of rain, eastern suburbs 90 mm and western suburbs 89 mm. Earlier today, as the state continues to face the impact of incessant rains, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took stock of the situation in the state. The CM called up the Raigad collector and asked him to help all the flood-affected people and he assured him of all possible help. Traffic has been halted at Tamhini Ghat on the Raigad-Pune road after debris from a landslide due to heavy rains. According to the Raigad police, “Traffic has been halted at Tamhini Ghat on the Raigad-Pune road due to a landslide. Traffic will be halted for the next few hours until the debris is cleared.”
