Magunta returns to TDP, son likely to get Ongole MP seat

Vijayawada: YSRC MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy along with his son Raghava Reddy joined TDP in the presence of party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday. After five years, Magunta returned to his home base – the TDP.

With Magunta announcing his retirement from active politics, TDP is expected to field his son from Ongole Lok Sabha constituency. After serving as an MLC till 2019, Magunta joined the YSRC and won from Ongole Lok Sabha constituency in the last election.

However, when his son was arrested in the Delhi liquor scam case, the YSRC is said to have refused to give him a ticket to contest from Ongole Lok Sabha constituency, despite former minister Balineni Srinivasulu Reddy mounting pressure on the YSRC president. Apart from this, the Magunta family was isolated. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is demanding re-nomination of the MP.
After turning approver in the Delhi liquor scam case, Raghava Reddy was released on bail and announced his resignation to the YSRC along with his father.

The involvement of the Magunta family is significant as it is related to BRS chief and former Chief Minister K.
Speaking after inviting the Magunta family and other leaders to the party, Naidu said that with Magunta’s return to TDP, the political scenario of Prakasam district has changed and the party is set to win the Ongole MP seat.
