Madhya Pradesh Toxic Syrup Survivor Returns Home After 115 Days, But Loses Eyesight

Bhopal: It is known that 24 children died in Madhya Pradesh due to kidney damage caused by toxic cough syrup. However, one boy has overcome death. (Toxic Syrup Survivor) The child, who had kidney damage, fought for his life for more than three months. However, despite winning his life, he lost his eyesight and mobility. Five-year-old Kunal Yaduvamshi, from Jatachhapar village in Chhindwara district, suffered from fever and cough on August 24. On the advice of the doctor, his parents gave him ‘Coldriff’ cough syrup.
However, after that, the boy’s health deteriorated. Medical tests confirmed that the child had damaged both kidneys due to the toxic cough medicine. As the boy’s health condition deteriorated further, he was referred to Nagpur on August 30. His father admitted Kunal to several hospitals, including AIIMS Nagpur. Doctors said that the boy’s chances of survival were very low.
On the other hand, Kunal continued to undergo painful daily dialysis for months. After 115 days of intensive treatment, the boy survived and returned home. However, he lost his eyesight due to the toxic effects of the cough syrup. He is also unable to walk properly due to the effects on his nervous system. However, doctors and parents are hopeful that the boy’s walking will improve with long-term medical care and rehabilitation, just as he survived.
