Madhya Pradesh records 60.52 pc polling till 3 pm
New Delhi (ANI): The Elections Commission of India reported a 60.52 percent voter turnout in 230 assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh elections by 3 pm on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh witnessed a 45.40 percent voter turnout by 1 pm. Notably, Agar Malwa in MP saw a high turnout of 69.96 percent, whereas Alirajpur recorded 50.66 percent participation by 3 pm.
Specifically, Anuppur witnessed a 62.47 percent turnout, Betul 63.66 percent, Bhopal (the capital city) 45.34 percent, and Chhindwara, the constituency of former Chief Minister and Congress candidate Kamla Nath, saw a significant 67.09 percent participation.
Other notable turnouts were recorded in Damoh at 64.83 percent, Datia at 58.34 percent, Guna at 63.10 percent, and Indore at 54.89 percent by 3 pm.
The voting for 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh commenced at 7 am on Friday. The state poses a significant challenge for the BJP, given the prolonged tenure of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Webcasting was made available at approximately 42,000 polling stations, with extensive security measures deployed including nearly 700 companies of central forces and two lakh state police personnel.
Over 2,500 candidates await their electoral fates, contesting for the votes of nearly 5.59 crore eligible voters, comprising 2.87 crore male and 2.71 crore female voters. There are also over 5,000 booths operated by women and 183 polling stations catering to the disabled.
These elections, occurring about six months prior to the Lok Sabha polls, hold immense significance for both the BJP and Congress. The counting of votes for the five states, including Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram, will take place on December 3. (ANI)
