LudhianaL: Undertrial prisoner dies, prisoners protest

Ludhiana: An undertrial prisoner lodged in Central Jail died on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Kharak Singh. Irritated over the alleged negligence of jail officials, the jail inmates staged a protest and claimed that he was not provided medical aid on time. According to information, Kharak Singh’s sugar level suddenly shot up last night and he was taken to a private hospital in Model Town, from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital. Kharak Singh died on the way. Jail Superintendent Shivraj said that the jail officials did not know that he was suffering from diabetes.

18-year-old girl commits suicide

A girl (18) allegedly died after hanging herself from a ceiling fan using a dupatta in an apartment in Apple Height near Waves Mall on Ferozepur Road. Police have registered a case against a man, a resident of Barewal, for abetting her suicide. The suspect has been identified as Vishal Kumar. According to the girl’s mother Sunita Devi, her daughter was engaged to Vishal Kumar on June 12. 2-3 days after the engagement, Vishal called and told that he cannot marry the girl. The girl went into depression and on June 22, she committed suicide by going into the cabin of the security post near the apartment.
