Ludhiana: Two men stole an e-rickshaw after pouring chilli powder in the driver’s eyes

Ludhiana: A man and his female companion robbed an e-rickshaw driver by throwing chili powder in his eyes. The criminals easily escaped the scene, but the victim is now desperately seeking help and appealing for justice to the Police Commissioner (CP). Ram Prakash, a resident of Daba Road in Shimlapuri, filed a written complaint stating that he supports his family by driving an e-rickshaw. He stated that on February 23rd, at around 9 p.m., he picked up a man and a woman from under the Ghaispura bridge. He dropped them off near Gill Garden at Ishar Nagar Chowk. However, the passengers asked him to drop them off a little further from the scene. After engaging the driver in conversation, the accused suddenly threw chili powder in his eyes and snatched his e-rickshaw. After committing the crime, they fled the scene.
The complainant stated that he first approached the Marado police station to file a report. At that time, they filed an informal report and asked him to return with his insurance documents and the e-rickshaw bill. The next morning, when he returned with the documents, a policeman told him that since he had picked up passengers from Giaspura, he should go to the Giaspura police post. When he arrived, an officer sent an employee, Sham Lal, to inspect the crime scene. After the inspection, they claimed the area fell under the jurisdiction of the Sherpur police post. When he arrived, the officers there again directed him to the Marado police post, claiming the incident actually occurred in their jurisdiction. The victim lamented that he had been sent from one police post to another since morning and had received no justice. He explained that he had financed the e-rickshaw to support his family and had yet to pay the installments.
