Lord Jagannath tattoo row: Studio owner arrested by Commissionerate police
Bhubaneswar: In the much hyped Lord Jagannath tattoo row, the owner of the tattoo studio has been arrested by the Commissionerate police on Monday. The foreigner got a tattoo of Lord Jagannath made on her thigh.
The Saheed Nagar police have arrested the owner of the Rocky Studio in this case. After the picture of the tattoo was shared on social media, some religious organizations protested in front of the Saheed Nagar police station and filed a case.
The tattoo of Lord Jagannath was made on the thighs of the woman that drew flack from Hindu religious groups. The tattoo art was shared as WhatsApp status following which Jagannath lovers approached the Saheed Nagar police station regarding the incident demanding strict action against the tattoo artist.
After the public protests, Rocky Studio owner Rocky Ranjan apologized on social media. However later the Saheed Nagar police arrested him. The arrest was done on charges of hurting religious sentiments under BNS Sec. 299 and BNS Sec. 196.
Following the arrest, the ACP Zone 5 said Lord Jagannath is the main deity of Odia. Disrespect for Mahaprabhu has hurt the religious sentiments of the people of Odisha.
