Election officials are committing suicide due to the pressure of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. Recently, a government teacher working as a Booth Lever Officer (BLO) committed suicide. (UP Poll Officer Suicide) Before this, he had said in a video message while crying to take care of his children. The incident took place in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Sarvesh Kumar, 46, a Dalit, is a teacher in a government school in Bahedi village of Bhojpur. He was appointed as a Booth Lever Officer (BLO) on October 7 for the ‘SIR’ work related to the revision of voter lists.
Meanwhile, this is the first time that Sarvesh Kumar has been assigned the task of going door to door to collect voters’ details and documents related to credentials as a Lower Level Election Officer (BLO). In this context, he could not complete the task given on time. Under that pressure, he committed suicide at his home in the early hours of Sunday morning. He stated in the suicide note that he was unable to cope with the work pressure due to the duties of the BLO.
On the other hand, before committing suicide, Sarvesh Kumar recorded a video message to his family. In it, he said that he had failed to complete the work. “Didi, Mommy, please forgive me. Please look after my children. I have failed in this election work. I am solely responsible for this decision I am taking. It is no one’s fault. I am very sad. I have not been able to sleep for 20 days. If I had time, I would have completed this work. I have four small daughters. Please forgive me. I am going far away from your world,” he said, breaking down in tears.
Sarvesh Kumar lamented in it that he wanted to live, but the pressure of his work was too much. After the video came to light, the family demanded action against the election officials who were responsible for his death.
