About 200 parrots have died in the last four days near the aqueduct bridge on the banks of the Narmada river in Badwa area. Seeing this, the locals were alarmed. They suspected that the parrots died due to bird flu infection.

Meanwhile, veterinarians, wildlife conservation department and forest department officials reached the area after receiving information about the death of hundreds of parrots. Postmortem was conducted on the parrots’ carcasses. The veterinarians confirmed that food poisoning was the cause of their death. They said that no signs of bird flu virus were found. Officials revealed that the parrots’ samples have been sent to the Jabalpur lab for further testing.

On the other hand, forest department officials believe that the parrots may have been poisoned by eating pesticide-sprayed food grains in the fields, contaminated water in the Narmada river, and leftover food left by visitors. In this context, visitors to the Aqueduct Bridge have been banned from feeding the birds. Staff have been deployed in the area to strictly enforce this.
