Liquor worth lakhs of rupees being brought for smuggling recovered from the river route

Gopalganj (IANS) | In Bihar, the state of liquor ban, when the police increased its strictness on the liquor smugglers on the road, the smugglers made the river route a medium for this. However, the Gopalganj police foiled this plan of the smugglers. Police has recovered liquor worth lakhs of rupees being brought by boat from Uttar Pradesh via Gandak river in Gopalganj.

According to the police, on the basis of secret information, the police raided the Diyara area of Gandak river in Jadopur police station area and recovered 1233 liters of country liquor kept in 137 cartoons from the boat.

A police official said that there are six check posts in Gopalganj district in order to enter Bihar from Uttar Pradesh. The incoming people have to pass through the check post. In such a situation, after increasing the strictness against liquor smugglers, smugglers are adopting the river route.

According to the police, so far this year more than half a dozen boats have been seized for smuggling liquor.

Superintendent of Police, Gopalganj, Swarna Prabhat said on Thursday that on the basis of secret information, the police seized liquor worth lakhs being brought from the Gandak river.

He told that a woman liquor smuggler, a resident of Nautan area of West Champaran, has been arrested in this case. However, the liquor smugglers aboard the boat escaped by jumping into the river in the dark of night. Due to the high depth of the river, the police could not catch them.

He said that mobile phone and diary have been recovered from the woman, which are being investigated.
