Lathicharge erupts in Daringbadi forest after a clash between picnickers

Daringbadi: A violent clash broke out between two picnic groups at the Duluri Pine Forest in the Daringbadi area of Kandhamal district on Sunday, prompting police to resort to lathi charge.

The incident occurred on the last Sunday of the year when approximately 3,000-4,000 people had gathered at the forest. Several groups were picnicking in the famous pine forest when an argument broke out between two groups from Berhampur and Bhubaneswar. The altercation quickly escalated into a physical fight, with members of both groups attacking each other with sticks and utensils.

The situation created chaos at the tourist spot, forcing some tourists to leave the area. Upon receiving information, Daringbadi police arrived at the scene and attempted to calm the groups. However, when the situation escalated out of control, police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

One person was injured and taken to Daringbadi Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged. Police detained five or six youths from both groups and brought them to the police station for questioning.
