Laptops for college students: CM to launch tomorrow

Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister Stalin will launch the “World in Your Hands” project tomorrow (January 5) at 3 pm at the Nandambakkam Business Centre Complex in Chennai, providing 1 million laptops for skill development and digital advancement of college students.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s government is implementing several schemes, such as the Tamil Pudathalavan Scheme, the Innovative Women Scheme, the First Generation Graduation (FG) Scheme, the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the Social Justice Hostel, etc., to promote the well-being and advancement of students.

Continuing these programs, the Chief Minister announced that a project to provide 2 million laptops to college students will be implemented under the knowledge-enhancing theme of “The World in Your Hands” to help them learn digital skills relevant to the needs of today’s world.

According to the announcement, this scheme is being implemented in two phases across the state. The inaugural ceremony for the first phase of the 1 million laptop distribution scheme will be held tomorrow at 3 pm at the Chennai Trade Centre Complex in Nandambakkam, Chennai. It will be presided over by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

At this event, 1 million laptops will be distributed to students from all government departments, including engineering, arts and science, medicine, agriculture, law, various technical colleges, and industrial training.

With the motto “Education for All! Progress for All!”, laptops from world-class companies like Dell, Acer, and HP are being provided to strengthen technological knowledge. These laptops come with Intel i3/AMD Ryzen 3 processors, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD memory, pre-installed Windows 11 Home Strategic and BOSS Linux OS, MS Office 365 for ongoing academic and project work, and a six-month subscription to Perplexity Pro, an artificial intelligence software that will serve as “a new window for the young generation seeking knowledge.” Each student is also provided with a high-quality laptop bag.
