Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn is ready to “blow your mind”
Harley Quinn: Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie a Deux’s brand new trailer has already arrived, promising that “the people will get what they want.” With Joaquin Phoenix’s return as Arthur Fleck aka the Joker, he now has Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, who is set to “blow your mind.” The Oscar and Grammy-winning singer recently opened up about her character, revealing that she had to change her singing voice. In a conversation with Empire, Lady Gaga said that she refrained from using many of her professional singing techniques during the film, explaining that Quinn would not know them.
The singer plays Lee, the new incarnation of DC’s Harley Quinn and Joker’s girlfriend. “People know me by my stage name, Lady Gaga, right? That’s who I am as that artist, but this movie is not like that; I’m playing a character. So I worked a lot on the way I sang, so that it comes from Lee and not from me as an artist,” she said. The singer-actor also stressed that fans should not expect Lady Gaga-style music from her, as Lee is a character who comes from a very different background in life, so she had to sing in a way that is more true to her on-screen persona. Lady Gaga drew comparisons between herself and Lee and said that she removed technicalities in the process of playing the character. Mentioning that there were a lot of “bum notes” from Lee’s side, the Shallow singer shared how she also controlled the way she breathed on stage, as she usually makes sure to stay on pitch and stick to the right rhythm and timing, something that Lee would never know. “So it’s like removing the technicality of the whole thing, removing my supposed art from it, and living completely inside of it,” Gaga said.
Joker and Quinn find love in new Joker trailer
In the latest trailer, Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck can be seen dealing with newfound stardom with the support of Gaga’s Quinn, who feels she’s no longer “alone.” “You can do whatever you want. You’re the Joker,” she tells him while the Joker declares in court, “I’m not going to allow any of you to hold me down anymore.”The film focuses on Arkham Asylum, where Fleck is incarcerated, awaiting trial for his crimes. However, this is where he finds true love and is set free to set out on a dark romantic misadventure. Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
